Kane’s Way Development Rising
Though they’ve still got months of work left before the first of their units are finished, officials from the East Bay Community Development Corporation have already sold five of the 19 affordable housing units being built in “Kane’s Way,” a new development on Metacom Avenue.
The development, just south of the Warren town line, contains 19 units — eight townhouses at either end and 11 flats in the middle — on a wooded parcel just north of San Francisco Avenue.
“Things are moving along quickly,” said EBCDC Executive Director Kathleen Bazinet. “We expect the townhouses (will be open) in November.”
The flats will be done some time in the spring,
The development is named after the late Muriel Kane, an EBCDC board member who died about two years ago. All of the units are designated as affordable housing Rhode Island law, and range in price from $162,700 to $236,000. The units contain between two and three bedrooms each, and there are elevators to reach the upper floors.
Ms. Bazinet said the units will be sold on a first come, first served basis, and eligibility to purchase them is solely dependent on income. She said there’s been strong interest in the development so far.
“We’re getting a lot of folks who are older and who no longer need a large home,” said Ms. Bazinet. “It’s a wonderful place; at first I was worried about the noise because it’s on Metacom Avenue. Because the property kind of dips a little, and with the new plantings that are going in (along Metacom) it is very quiet. And in back, all you see are woodlands.”
